A talk by Arnold Zable presented by the NT Writers Centre in association with
the Darwin Asylum seeker Support and Advocacy Network.
Stories humanise. Stories provide a voice to the voiceless. Stories are a means of bearing witness, and empowering the traumatised and excluded. Stories cross cultural boundaries and expose the demonisation of asylum seekers and other groups. This talk explores authorship, the art of listening, and the craft of story, both oral and written, and the responsibilities writers and advocates have to the people whose stories they are recounting. We discover that through story we honour both our diversity and common humanity.
